About the Show

The Tina Baer Affair – Welcome to my love affair with music!

It’s a passion that’s lasted longer than any other for me and has been there through all the phases of my life. My earliest memories are of me sitting on the floor of our family living room, listening to my parents’ Frank Sinatra & Barbra Streisand albums. Of course, The Beatles were there as well – I was in love with Ringo. Then, my older sister introduced me to English progressive and southern rock music in the ‘70’s and the rest is history. Music has been with me through all the phases of my life, and I broadened my knowledge of many genres while working at Apple Tree Records during my high school and college days.

I had the cool jobs – including a few summers ushering at rock shows at Poplar Creek Music Theater during the ‘80’s, seeing the likes of Dire Straits, Genesis and Moody Blues – being paid to see my favorites! I was also a college student during the MTV days when MTV actually played music – missing several classes for fear of missing a music video coming up in rotation. I credit MTV for introducing me to my all-time favorite band – U2. And, while not an alum of WLHA – I did get my radio licks as one of the many voices heard on WPGU, Rock 107 out of Champaign-Urbana at the University of Illinois.

Today, I’m married to a WHLA alum, Tom Baer – host of Friday Night Live. We have a daughter who’s not only been on the WLHA airwaves, but also a huge music buff in her own right and she inspires me in her tastes as I do her. Nothing pleases me more than seeing current generations embrace the classics of the past like Fleetwood Mac, Elton John and Queen. The beauty of WLHA is that we’re everywhere and can be anywhere to bring you our shows. I broadcast from my home studio in Wilmette, IL – better known as the hometown of Bill Murray and several John Hughes films. And, while I have a full-time career in real estate that helps pay the bills, playing music for you is my creative outlet, my true passion.

Each week, I will take you down a path of the music that has inspired me while introducing you to some of the newest music being released today, New Music Moments. If you’re like me, music isn’t just something you listen to. It’s something that happens to you. I think our strongest memories are tied to sound, particularly the music that spoke to us, energized us, inspired us, and changed us…and that is the essence of The Tina Baer Affair.
