Each year the WLHA alumni staff get together to stream a Spring broadcast to commemorate April Fools Day and Earth Day.  This year, we have another important anniversary to work into the schedule, the sixtieth birthday of WLHA.   On the evening of March 29th, 1954 U.W. student radio signed on for the first broadcast.  In those days, the station was called WMHA as a part of the Men’s Halls Association, and the frequency was 970 AM.  When full power WHA signed off at sunset, WMHA signed on to replace them, playing classical music and providing a campus radio voice to the Lakeshore dorms.  They eventually shifted to 640 Khz in order to run a longer broadcast schedule each day, unrestricted by the WHA sign-off time.   WMHA became WLHA when the Men’s Halls Association turned into the Lakeshore Halls Association in 1960.

March 29th, 2014 will mark 60 years since that first broadcast, and to suitably commemorate the occasion, we plan to do our 2014 Spring broadcast that evening.  It is a Saturday night the weekend before April Fools day, so the timing seems ideal.   Hope you can join us at www.lakeshore64.com/live.html
