Earth Day Broadcast 2010

On Sat. April 24th, WLHA was alive and rocking again, with a special broadcast focused on Earth Day, Springfest 2010, and a touch of April Fools.  It was four and half hours of radio fun and featured live music performances, over 70 new audio production bits and remote links, as well as dozens of  live copy sponsorship elements.   We are resting up over the Summer but we will back n the Fall for more.

Next special broadcast is a Halloween theme event, scheduled for Sat. Oct. 30th , 2010. We hope to follow this show with the premier of the latest WLHA radio thriller  "The Creature From The Steam Tunnels" which stars a large number 1970s era staffers.

We hope to have even more of you directly involved in this one. Contact the webmaster if you would like to help produce some content for this scary radio production.

2008 HOLIDAY PARTY WEB BROADCAST

The weeks before Christmas 2008 in Madison had been cold with almost daily snowstorms and cabin fever was setting in. Something was needed to liven things up.  It had been a year or more since the Hip-A-Thon. Andy had no more hips to replace, yet it seemed like it was time to get everyone together again for another WLHA broadcast event.  An idea was hatched to throw a WLHA on-air holiday party and broadcast/stream it over the web to those living too far away to attend in person. WLHA musicologist Andy Arns sent in a library of unique holiday tunes.  Internet hook ups linked Lee Harris (Dave Bornstein) to the event to do newscasts live from Manhattan. Capt. Al Sampson, with Whirlybird 64 came out of retirement and braved the bad weather to provide Eye in the Sky Guy reports, and former staffers sent in recorded holiday greeting messages.  Snow and ice kept most sane people at home but shortly before the appointed 6PM broadcast time, Wild Bruce showed up in a Santa Hat, carrying a small lighted Christmas tree. Suddenly, things had taken on a real party atmosphere. Just before heading over to the broadcast, Bruce had posted a notice about the broadcast on his Facebook page which apparently attracted considerable attention and generated extra listeners to the webcast.

Upstairs, hot pizza, hot cider, eggnog, and other party snacks were arrayed.  At 6PM the broadcast got underway with a custom made holiday jingle theme. Before long, the phone started ringing, and more special guests started arriving.

The studios had been wired for video and a quad split of four cameras showed the various broadcast positions live over the web.

From 6PM to 10PM on Sat. Dec. 20th, Casey, Nivek, and Wild Bruce hosted the party live over the internet and were joined by former staffers and friends calling in from all over the country.

Here is the audio from the Holiday Broadcast, split into four parts, with the music edited down (telescoped).

First hour of the broadcast. 6PM - 7PM

Second hour of the broadcast. 7PM - 8PM

Third hour of the broadcast. 8PM - 9PM
