Earth Day Broadcast 2010

On Sat. April 24th, WLHA was alive and rocking again, with a special broadcast focused on Earth Day, Springfest 2010, and a touch of April Fools.  It was four and half hours of radio fun and featured live music performances, over 70 new audio production bits and remote links, as well as dozens of  live copy sponsorship elements.   We are resting up over the Summer but we will back n the Fall for more.

Next special broadcast is a Halloween theme event, scheduled for Sat. Oct. 30th , 2010. We hope to follow this show with the premier of the latest WLHA radio thriller  "The Creature From The Steam Tunnels" which stars a large number 1970s era staffers.

We hope to have even more of you directly involved in this one. Contact the webmaster if you would like to help produce some content for this scary radio production.

Staff alumni and missing staff list.

Here is  an air name/real name cross-reference of former staffers we are compiling from memory. Some of these have been located and contacted. The rest we are actively seeking.

2007 HIP-A-THON PROGRAM

In Fall of 2007, Andy Arns was heading into the hospital for a hip replacement surgery. Knowing this would be a long recuperation, Casey and Nivek got together and decided Andy might enjoy hearing all of the old WLHA production stuff and some of the old programs, so a fast collection of audio materials ensued. This project grew into a plan to do an actual program involving as many former staffers as could be located, having them join the show with called in messages and email.  The program would be a nostalgic WLHA return to the airwaves, complete with HIP-A-THON shouts and some of Andy's favorite music, and it would all be recorded and edited down to three CDs that Andy could listen to in the hospital.  Everthing had to be done very quickly if this was to reach Andy while he needed it, and so a quick effort went into trying to locate old staffers, send out emails, and make technical arrangments to bring WLHA back to life one more time.  As the appointed hour for broadcast approached, it was clear that many of the old staff email addresses were no longer valid and there was confusion about who had gotten the word.   There was no more time for rehearsal or frantic phone calls.  In typical WLHA style, the show would rely on improvisation and  imagination.  In other words, they would just go ahead and make it up as they went along.

So imagine you are tuning the AM dial or surfing internet radio and you notice that the static is strangely quiet at 640kHz.  Somewhere in the cold night there is a powerful transmitter idling.   Then the eerie silence is broken with the familiar sound of Dave Bornstein doing the old official station sign on.  For the next four hours WLHA is alive again.   Here is the whole aircheck split into three parts with music reduced to intros and outros.
